After working in different mental health fields for years, our founder, Christa Friddle, became inspired to establish her own private practice in 2015 to help children and families of the Upstate with their mental health concerns.
In 2022, her husband and life-long mental health professional, Ethan, joined her private practice, expanding the counseling services her business offer.
Christa is a South Carolina Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Board-Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Animal-Assisted Intervention Specialist (C-AAIS).
She holds a Bachelor's degree from Furman University (2001), a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary (2004), and a Master of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Clemson University (2010).
Before establishing New Growth Counseling, Christa served children and families for 11 years in a variety of settings, including child welfare agencies and a private mental health clinic for children.
Since moving into private practice, Christa has completed specialized training in adoption-competent mental health services, animal-assisted psychotherapy, and traumatic stress studies.
Working alongside her therapy dog, Tee, she serves children and adults who are experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship conflicts. She has a particular interest in providing hope for healing after childhood adversity and adverse religious experiences.
Christa is an in-network provider with BlueCrossBlueShield
and is able to serve adults out-of-network.
Ethan is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A) who holds a Bachelor’s degree from Furman University (2000), a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary (2004), and a Master of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Clemson University (2012).
Ethan’s counseling approach draws upon 18 years of experience providing direct service and leadership within a nonprofit agency that seeks to harness Greenville’s generous spirit to facilitate transformative life change for individuals and families.
Ethan enjoys opportunities to serve individuals seeking insight and change, helping them develop and utilize their inner resources as they experience challenges like stress, grief and loss, life transitions, vocational issues, disability and illness, and interpersonal issues.
Ethan currently serves self-pay clients only.
Tee is an English Goldendoodle and a registered therapy dog.
She loves welcoming people to New Growth Counseling and working with Christa to provide services as an animal-assisted therapy team. When she is not working, Tee enjoys playing with her friends at the dog daycare center and hiking with Christa and Ethan.
